Method

The reason for this site is to provide an objective approach to quantify team strength in a method that is at least slightly different than others.

The main ingredients are:

1) Normalized point differential. Some methods consider point differential which is good. However, scoring a bajillion points against one opponent (especially a bad one) can skew results and should be weighted differently. Beating an opponent by, say, 20 or 40 points shouldn't make a real difference in a team's rating.

2) Accounting for opponent strength game by game. Obviously beating better opponents should be worth more than beating poor opponents. Curiously, an opponent's strength is what we are trying to capture, so a recursive algorithm is employed to iterate the team by team strength numbers until values "settle" to steady values that optimize all 256 matchups in a full season.
